Portable Power Max Review

Portable Power Max USB Device Backup Battery

Do you wish that there was an easy way to charge your cell phone and all of your other USB powered devices at the same time? If so, you'll be excited to find out about the Portable Power Max, a powerful backup battery that can charge up to five USB devices simultaneously. This product is brought to market by dreamGEAR/iSound and is part of a full product line of iPod accessories. As a member of the LoveToKnow Cell Phones editorial team, I was sent one to try for myself and I'm happy to report the results of my experience to you.

Independent Review of the Portable Power Max

The iSound Portable Power Max doesn't look like much when you take it out of the package, but looks are definitely deceiving in this case. The battery pack is six inches long by three inches wide and is just over an inch thick. Despite its compact size, it features 16,000 milliampere-hours (mAh) of power. There are five USB ports on one end. The other end features an on/off switch, charging indicator lights and a built-in flashlight, a feature that makes it very easy to use the battery during power outages. It also comes with a power cord and one mini/micro USB cable.

When fully charged, the battery pack has 480 hours - that's 20 full days - of power. Whether you're in need of battery backup for your iPhone, iPad, Android cell phone, Android tablet, eReader or other USB device, the Portable Power Max has all of the charging power that you need. It's quite simple to use. All you have to do to charge the unit is plug it in. The indicator lights will let you know how much "juice" it has. When you need to charge USB devices, just plug each one into an available port.

You can use it to charge multiple devices of your own or devices belonging to several members of your household or office staff. I used mine to keep all of the cell phones in my household charged and functioning during a thunderstorm power outage. The peace of mind that came with knowing that I wasn't dependent solely on the phones' internal batteries for an indefinite period of time and that I could count on the alarm on my cell phone to wake me up in the morning even if the power was still out. This experience made it easy for me to see just how valuable this type of device can really be. I plan to keep mine handy for unexpected power outages and as part of my disaster preparedness kit, as well as carrying it along on camping and road trips.
